Susquehanna Valley Elementary Wrestling League

Welcome to the S.V.E.W.L. website......home league of some of the toughest elementary wrestlers in the state of PA!

The SVEWL  was formed in 1981 to promote youth wrestling in central Pennsylvania.  League dual matches are held on Sunday afternoons from mid December to mid February.  

Dual matches run very similar to a high school dual meet.  Each school has a "varsity" wrestler that represents their team at any one of the following weights: 

50, 54, 58, 62, 66, 70, 74, 78, 82, 86, 90, 94, 98, 102, 106, 110, 120, 130, 145, 170. 

Each match has 3 periods; 1:00, 1:30, 1:30, and is scored as a scholastic match.  Team points are scored as 3 points for a decision, 4 for a major decision, 5 for a technical fall and 6 for a true fall (pin).

Each match is officiated by a PIAA licensed official.  The results are turned into the league president within 24 hours of the completion of the match. 

At the end of the season, there is a varsity team tournament where each team sends one wrestler to compete for the title of League Champion.

In addition to the Varsity line-up each school has between 30-50 "junior varsity" wrestlers that have the opportunity to wrestle after the dual match is finished.  Many times there are 3-4 matches are running simultaneously; where the wrestlers are matched according to their ability, age and weight.
